A brief review of nutritional studies for Penaeus monodon ArchiMer
Liao, I; Liu, F.
In order to develop effective formulated for Penaeus monodon , sufficient information is needed on its nutritional requirements. Unfortunately, research on this area has been very limited. This paper outlines the results of such research. Since data on the nutritional requirements of P. japonicus are relatively well established, some of these data are also reviewed in this paper and are used as a basis for assessing the nutritional requirements of P. monodon . Protein, lipid, carbohydrate, mineral and vitamin requirements are evaluated from the parameters of growth survival and feed efficiency. Studies on the effects of enzymes and the development of microparticulate diet for larvae are also summarized.

A comparison of the trophic ecology of Beaufort Sea Gadidae using fatty acids and stable isotopes ArchiMer
Brewster, J. D.; Giraldo, Carolina; Choy, E. S.; Macphee, S. A.; Hoover, C.; Lynn, B.; Mcnicholl, D. G.; Majewski, A.; Rosenberg, B.; Power, M.; Reist, J. D.; Loseto, L. L..
Polar cod (Boreogadus saida) is one of the most studied Arctic marine fishes given its circumpolar distribution and centralised role in the Arctic marine food web. In contrast, relatively little is known about two other Arctic Gadidae: saffron cod (Eleginus gracilis) and Greenland cod (Gadus ogac). Climate change is expected to have an effect on sea ice-associated species, such as polar cod, but due to our lack of knowledge of other arctic gadid species it remains unclear how climate change will impact them and their interactions within the arctic marine ecosystem. Here, we explored the ecology of three Arctic Gadidae that co-occur in the Canadian Beaufort Sea. Stable isotope (SI) (niche overlap) and fatty acid (FA) (correspondence analysis and linear...

Adaptations biochimiques intestinales chez la truite: Influence de l'aliment et de la salinite sur quelques proprietes membranaires ArchiMer
Leray, C.
The authors report the results of physiological and biochemical experiments which confirm the important role player by fish (Salmo gairdneri ) intestinal mucosa in their osmoregulatory process. The ability of the dietary lipids to modulate this function is described. It was demonstrated that the ionic apical permeability of the enterocytes are related to their membrane lipid composition. The importance of the essential fatty acids is emphasized. The time course changes of the apical permeability are of value in improving sea water adaptation, similar conclusions are reported for Nacl supplementation.

Assimilation of shrimp farm sediment by Holothuria scabra : a coupled fatty acid and stable isotope approach ArchiMer
Mathieu-resuge, Margaux; Le Grand, Fabienne; Schaal, Gauthier; Kraffe, Edouard; Lorrain, Anne; Letourneur, Yves; Lemonnier, Hugues; Benoît, Julie; Hochard, Sébastien.
Deposit-feeding sea cucumbers are efficient nutrient recyclers and have the potential to contribute to the limitation of organic matter load in polyculture or integrated aquaculture systems. Assessing how they assimilate organic matter originating from other farmed species is therefore important for the development of such multi-species farming systems. Here, a coupled stable isotope − fatty acid approach was used to characterize the assimilation of organic matter from shrimp (Penaeus stylirostris) farming by Holothuria scabra in an experimental culture system. H. scabra were reared in mesocosms on shrimp farming-originating sediment with and without additional food sources (maize and fish meals). Although fatty acid results did indicate that...

Bacterial colonization of winter flounder Pseudopleuronectes americanus fed live feed enriched with three different commercial diets ArchiMer
Seychelles, L. H.; Audet, C.; Tremblay, R.; Lemarchand, K.; Pernet, Fabrice.
The proliferation of bacteria in intensive aquaculture systems may be responsible for poor growth and mass mortality of marine fish larvae. Essential fatty acids provided in the diet could protect larvae by modulation of the immune response via arachidonic acid (AA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). Winter flounder Pseudopleuronectes americanus larvae were fed rotifers Brachionus plicatilis enriched with three commercial diets containing different fatty acid profiles. Bacterial colonization on the gills and skin and in the intestinal lumen was evaluated at the end of the rotifer feeding period (day 26), and growth was surveyed until metamorphosis. At 26 days post hatching, larvae fed rotifers containing the higher AA content and with a higher...

Bivalve trophic ecology in the Mediterranean: Spatio-temporal variations and feeding behavior ArchiMer
Purroy, Ariadna; Najdek, Mirjana; Isla, Enrique; Zupan, Ivan; Thebault, Julien; Peharda, Melita.
The trophic ecology of two bivalves, the clam Callista chione and the cockle Glycymeris bimaculata was studied using environmental and biochemical variables of the suspended particulate matter and the sediment. Samples were collected from two shallow sites, Pag and Cetina, in the coastal oligotrophic Mediterranean Sea, during a 17 month period. The temporal variation of the particulate matter reflected a mixture between marine and terrestrial sources throughout the year, with a clear marine influence during summer and fall, and predominance of terrestrial inputs during spring and winter. The digestive gland was a useful rapid turnover tissue, where the carbon isotope signal was species-specific and the nitrogen isotope one was site-specific. FA markers in...

Breeding of high lipid producing strain of Geotrichum robustum by ion beam implantation Electron. J. Biotechnol.
Cao,Yuanyuan; Yao,Jianming; Li,Jun; Chen,Xiangsong; Wu,Jinyong.
To obtain an industrial strain with high lipid yield, the wild strain G0 of Geotrichum robustum was mutated by means of nitrogen ions implantation. Mutagenic effects of strain G0 by low energy N+ ion implantation were studied. The experimental results indicated that the survival rate curve took a ?saddle? shape, and the positive mutation rate was increased to 22.00% at the dose of nitrogen ions 2.0 x 10(15) ions/cm² when the survival rate was 28.60%. By repeated screening, a high lipid producing strain G9 was obtained. The biomass, lipid content and lipid yield of the mutant can reach 40.25 g/L, 71.14% and 28.63 g/L after cultured in a 5L fermenter for 8 days, increasing by 52.81%, 68.82% and 157.93% to those of wild strain, respectively. Changes in fatty acid composition in the giant clam Tridacna maxima in response to thermal stress ArchiMer
Dubousquet, Vaimiti; Gros, Emmanuelle; Berteaux-lecellier, Veronique; Viguier, Bruno; Raharivelomanana, Phila; Bertrand, Cédric; Lecellier, Gael J..
Temperature can modify membrane fluidity and thus affects cellular functions and physiological activities. This study examines lipid remodelling in the marine symbiotic organism, Tridacna maxima, during a time series of induced thermal stress, with an emphasis on the morphology of their symbiont Symbiodinium. First, we show that the French Polynesian giant clams harbour an important proportion of saturated fatty acids (SFA), which reflects their tropical location. Second, in contrast to most marine organisms, the total lipid content in giant clams remained constant under stress, though some changes in their composition were shown. Third, the stress-induced changes in fatty acid (FA) diversity were accompanied by an upregulation of genes involved in lipids...

Characterization of the oils present in acid and fermented silages produced from Tilapia filleting residue R. Bras. Zootec.
Vidotti,Rose Meire; Pacheco,Maria Teresa Bertoldo; Gonçalves,Giovani Sampaio.
The objective of this study was to determine the quality and composition of fatty acid in the lipid fraction of silages obtained from the residue of tilapia processing. Stratification of the lipid layer of the silages occurred at different times among the two types of silage (acid and fermented) and the greatest volume of oil was observed in acid silage (8.67% p/p). Although acid silage was more oxidized, it showed lower contents of free fatty acids probably because the degree of hydrolysis of its components is lower than that of fermented silage. Fatty acid composition did not differ among processes inasmuch as level of ϖ-3 was slightly higher in fermented silage. According to the degree of saturation, monounsaturated fatty acids stood out as the...
